Thanks for your feedback. At this point we haven't decided to allow already owned names into our marketplace. This is something we will consider in the future, and if we do move forward with that, we will certainly offer this at a different pricing structure.
Regarding the addition of filters, we absolutely agree. We have a lot of updates planned to improve the discovery of domain names, including machine learning technology. Over the next several weeks, you will continue to see more changes in the marketplace user experience.
@ablebrands, thanks for sharing your concerns.
The pricing changes you have seen so far, represent the first wave of changes - we plan to gradually increase the prices further on most marketplace domains as we get a better idea of the market dynamics. The goal here is not for SH to get a bigger share at the expense of the creatives - we truly believe many of the marketplaces names are worth more than what they are currently priced at.
I would also like to explain a bit more about our pricing structure. What differentiates us from other marketplaces is that SH is taking the initial risk and investment in registering the domains, while still allowing you to submit those names in active naming contests. We will be absolutely thrilled with the outcome if your name simply wins a naming contest, and Squadhelp does not make any additional money from the domain sale (despite the upfront investment we make in the domain registration, marketing as well as visual logo design).
Here are other areas we plan to make significantly more investment going forward:
- Significantly higher marketing spend to promote these domain names through various forms of marketing.
- Investment to create visual logos for these domains.
Having said that, we certainly do not want anyone to feel that that they are being stiffed by these changes. Therefore, if you would like to move your existing approved domains back to the original $599 pricing, and not participate in any further pricing increase for these names, we are happy to "grandfather" those domains back to the original pricing. Just note that in those cases, we will not be able to justify making the additional marketing investment we plan to make in promoting those specific domains. If you prefer to stay at the current selling price of $599, please send us a message via the blue button, including the list of names, and we will change the price immediately.
However, for any domains that are listed going forward, the minimum price they will be listed at is $699 (over time, this minimum selling price will also likely increase - but we want to take small steps in testing the market first). Please consider these aspects before listing additional names in the marketplace.
Regarding the cost of logo design, the creatives will not have to pay this cost. But we will test a few different options in the future, where the customers may have to pay an additional fee if they want us to customize their logo or acquire the rights to the source files. The logo designs that we are currently planning on making are intended to improve the visual display and discovery of the names. They are not meant to be actual logos a company might actually use -we don't believe stock logos work for many companies - they will likely prefer a custom logo (from a Squadhelp contest) that fits their brand positioning.
In closing, our fundamental focus continues to be on naming contests because that represents our core business. However, with the proof of concept we have done with the marketplace, we believe there is a large opportunity that can benefit our creative community as well as our customers who are looking for high quality, brandable names. Therefore, we plan to make significantly more investment in this area.
