The point I would like to make is that I am pretty sure those kind of names would never be submitted by creatives who have been here awhile and know the ropes and have fine tuned and proven their naming skills.
I understand your concern with CH's receiving substandard names..but when you have 100's of new creatives joining every week..and anyone can join whether they have naming talent or not..you are going to get people who think this is going to be an easy gig to make money, and are not taking it seriously or perhaps don't have naming talent.
Once you are here for any length of time..you know that it is not an easy way to earn money...it takes time and dedication, and I would think that these namers who are submitting terrible names will naturally fall off when all they get are rejections and don't win.So to me..that is the nature of what is going to happen when anyone and everyone can join SH.
What the difficulty is, like Moretal said, and I tried to say in an earlier post..your success in naming even if you are a terrific namer, is going to ebb and flow.Because every CH is not looking for the same thing, and not everyone gets your style of naming. That's why you don't only have one person naming everyone's contest.
My point was with the way it is set up now..those who have proven themselves to be good and consistent namers, have to keep proving it over and over, which in my opinion, shouldn't happen. You should reach a certain level where you are "safe" or secure.
Since you have instigated these percentages/rules to weed out substandard names..it shouldn't be applied to those who have already proven they are not in that category, in my opinion.
The very nature of this gig is that you are going to do better and worse depending on what kind of contests and CH's come down the pike.Everyone is going to misread what the CH wants at times,or take shots in the dark with their submissions when the CH isn't clear what they want,or when they change horses midstream of what they want,or they just don't like your naming style even though you are submitting really appropriate names. You are going to get rejections at times..no matter how good of a namer you are.Sometimes strings of rejections. And those who are active and enter more contests, are going to not only probably win more contests..but they also are risking because of the sheer volume of entries..getting more rejections.
I do appreciate you separating Logos from Creatives as they are apples and oranges. In fact I made a suggestion about that about a year ago.
My score that was taking a nosedive daily..actually came up 6 % so I was grateful.
I totally understand as owner of this business you have to please the CHs and keep SH viable..but since it is your creatives who are the lifeblood of this..and you would have no contests without us..it has to be fair and worthwhile for us to keep going and putting out time and creativity into it,with very little payoff as it is.
Sure..you can back fill everyday if any of us leave. But I would think you would want to retain the core group of us who have worked hard and remained loyal and productive..often for years. And every time you take on new creatives who you have no idea what their naming skills are..you run the risk of giving the CH those kind of names you mentioned. Not that capable creatives don't join also..but I would think you'd want to do everything possible to keep us senior members here who have a track record...instead of making us jump thru hoops constantly to try to keep our naming privileges we already have earned. If you have star ballplayers..you don't keep making them have to go back down to the pony league.Thanks.
