Given that we are an open environment, we believe these checks and balances are important for the success of our platform, our creatives and our contest holders.
I would like to share few examples of entries from one of the recently abandoned contests (sorry don't mean to pick on any one specific creative - these are primarily for illustration).
Now imagine, if at the start of the contest, 10 creatives submitted these types of entries (5 per creative). After rating these 50 entries, a CH will likely not even pay close attention to a really high quality name that is submitted by the 11th creative. By this time, the CH has already decided that the contest is not working for them, and they don't believe it is worth their time to stay involved any more.
From the first week we added early access, we saw an immediate improvement in % of contests where a CH chooses a winner, and continues to rate. However we still need to make more progress. The point of these rules is not to have arbitrary restrictions - but it is to ensure that our contests are more successful, and our creatives who are submitting thoughtful entries do not lose out because the CHs were overwhelmed with other entries which were not relevant.
As of today, we have made additional changes to percentile score metric. Now the percentile score for Logo creatives is calculated differently from Naming creatives. We have also added additional minimum number of entries for new creatives to be eligible to receive percentile score.
In order to be eligible for Tier A, you need to win 3 contests over a duration of 6 months (in other words, you need to win 3 contests from a pool of roughly 3000 contests ). You also have the ability to earn that status by maintaining a high percentile rank. Based on the changes we have made today, many of you should see an increase in your percentile rank starting today. Even if you do not have a Tier A status, you should be able to participate in twice as many non Tier A contests compared to the the number of contests that were available just 3 months ago.
We will continue to invest resources in improving our platform so that the creatives who submit relevant entries see more and more opportunities to participate.
