Unless they definitely want an odd made up word..or don't need a .com domain.
It's getting so I skip those contests as I don't want my stats to take a beating when we can't deliver mainstream, real word 5 letter .coms.
I too, am thinking there is a better way to do stats for creatives. After being around 88- 89% for the most part of a year..in a matter of weeks I slid down to 83%. Now I didn't suddenly become a terrible namer..(I don't think anyway..as I win contests every month..) it's just the kind of contests coming down the pike lately I guess, either weren't fond of my particular naming style..they weren't clear about what they wanted, or they tended to reject 95% of all entries(which I didn't think would hurt my stats). So as a result..I lost my preferred namer status, was reduced in the number of entries I can submit, and became rather depressed to see strings of orange faces, when I felt like I was giving quality names.
I agree that not in all cases do the ratings give a true representation of your ability as a creative. Especially if you are a creative that "is creative",and your names are original or not run of the mill. This type of rating system can penalize you.You may get higher stats the way this is set up if you submit "safer" names..but I don't think if you are an out of the box thinker,it should hurt you.I think also that it should be a combo of how long you have been here..if you win contests,if your submissions are creative and worthy, how much you participate, etc.
You can have a 95% CH rating but never win a contest. You can have a 65% rating and win bunches of contests. So what does that say?
If particular names you enter just doesn't strike that particular CH..it doesn't necessarily mean it's not a good name.I have had a name rejected..then be a winner a few contests down the road.
I have had names be love its..but then be ultimately rejected. It didn't suddenly turn into a bad name.
I think Rareworthy has alot of valid points, and Commulinks and LauraE. I don't want naming here to turn into a series of frustration. I think their should be more support and latitude for creatives ,and not such rigid stats, and ways to let the CH's know when they are wanting the impossible or near impossible.
